What is Trauma Therapy?

Trauma therapy can help you address events in your past and support you in processing your feelings and emotions.  It gives you the opportunity to face your fears in a safe space and learn coping skills that can help you function better.

Through the supportive relationship that good counselling creates, you can begin to reduce the effects of your trauma on your daily life – which can be experienced as anxiety, depression, troubles at work or in relationships.

We will explore different ways of healing and soothing your mind and body so that you can move through the world with less strain - be it anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or other issues.

 

How do I work with Trauma?

I use a combination of talking therapy and body-aware therapy to support you in working through your traumatic experiences.

We will work to expand on the strengths and resources that you already have.

 

Body-aware therapy simply means that I will notice what is going in in your body and feed it back to you. If you wish, I will also provide ways in which you can soothe your body via mindfulness and other means. These tools can be used in the therapy room or can be for you to use in between sessions..

 

We will also build a better awareness of what is going on in your mind and body, which will help you to understand your sensitivities and triggers and respond to them earlier and with more compassion.
